Altitude and Azimuth Adjustments
1. For fine alignment, slightly loosen the ALTITUDE LOCKING LEVER and barely loosen the two AZIMUTH LOCK KNOBS. You
should feel considerable resistance from these locking devices when making final precise adjustments. If the locking
devices are loose, the alignment may shift when you finally do lock them down undoing all your efforts to obtain a
precise alignment. When adjusting azimuth, remember that you must back off with one A
ZIMUTH ADJUSTER KNOB to
move the other.
2. Follow one of the methods of fine polar alignment mentioned above.
3. When polar alignment has been achieved, tighten the A
LTITUDE LOCK LEVER. Make sure that the AZIMUTH ADJUSTER
KNOB that you have been backing off is turned back in until it is against the AZIMUTH ADJUSTING PIN so that the mount is
held firmly in azimuth. Tighten the A
ZIMUTH LOCK KNOBS.
4. For a portable installation, the A
LTITUDE LOCKING LEVER and the AZIMUTH ADJUSTER KNOBS do not need excessive
tightening. You can tighten with more force for a permanent installation.
AZIMUTH HINT: When you are at the fine stages of azimuth adjustment, it is helpful to change your approach slightly.
Instead of 1. backing the one knob way off, 2. adjusting with the other knob, and then 3. tightening the first knob back against
the adjuster, try the following: 1. Back the first knob off ONLY by the amount that you wish to tweak the adjustment – 1/4
turn or 1/8 turn or whatever. 2. Adjust with the other knob until it gets tight.
ALTITUDE HINT: Try to make your final tweaks in altitude so that you are raising the mount from below the pole rather than
descending onto your precise altitude. This ensures that the mount is held in place by the adjusting mechanism as well as
the locking lever.
